Lots of people get hung up on the romance of the sea.....it's easy to do. All the great books we've read over the years...the great movies we've seen, all the great beaches we've been to....all of it contributes to a strong pull....a magnetic alluring pull.....toward a life at sea....

Well.....

Don't be fooled by any of that bull shit. You WILL regret the day you were born if you think...seriously think for even a second...that you will have a successful career and a happy life....while trying to make a meaningful job in the Merchant Marine.

The Maritime Academies, [I suffered for years at California Maritime Academy] will offer little hope but they will definitely find time to convince you that your aims of working at sea are good ones...because this justifies the jobs of those "teaching" there.....Oh yes they'll tell you that going to sea is a good thing, a "rewarding" career...full of "opportunities"....Don't fall for this crap..don't fall for it at all.
The Academies [and CMA was EXPERT at this] will find time to force you to attend all manner of 'mandatory meetings' where some infantile plump ghetto worm from D.C. will talk to you about 'wiggers' and kids who say "YO"......and other too numerous to remember time wasting exercises....Yet.....all the while....going to sea is a good career.....Precious little on how to ACTUALLY MAKE THE SEA GOING CAREER WORK.....This CMA will leave up to YOU...

Damn near every day while I was going to CMA I used to read these books about the Merchant Marine.....the adventure...the fascinating challenges of managing a ship....the cargo...the crew....
Learning about all the mechanical systems....learning about navigating....and how to read the weather.....All of it was interesting stuff......but dang near no one else shared this interest. The kids....and they most definitely were and still are kids....they were more interested in getting high....getting drunk....getting tattooed chasing that ever elusive pussy or easy to catch rectum.....and surfing.....Well....in the final analysis....these kids had it right....and I had it all WRONG.
Chasing pussy....surfing and getting high will get you a Captains job much quicker than having an interest in clouds.....and wave propagation....NOT one person at CMA really gave a shit about any of that intellectual stuff..........and they were....ARE..... the ones who are now "sailing" as Master.....have the good jobs...the steady income.....the LIFE.......

Remember....above all other things.....in the Merchant Marine.....Deep Sea or on the "tugs"....

I used read books in the CMA library that had been printed in the 1950's....and that was the merchant marine I hoped to find...even in some small way....once I graduated.....and I was very painfully educated on the 'job'....that those books that I thought were sooooo dang neat....were as worthless as the paper they were printed on....dusty worthless garbage....
Oh...don't get me wrong...you most definitely WILL need to know all those books and their entire contents to pass the United States Coast Guard License Exam.....but that's about it....once the exam room is behind you.....throw the books away....or store them until the next exam....You won't ever use them on a ship.....well....perhaps to prop up a table leg....



Well......here are a few things that they don't teach you at CMA.....or at any other "maritime academy" for that matter.

Your life on a ship is going to really suck. You will NEVER get enough sleep...you ABSOLUTELY WILL be working....day in .....day out.....with the most worthless humans ever to slime the surface of the earth.....land OR sea....and if you thought the food at the academy stank...wait till you see the vat fried prison food they serve you on a ship in the Gulf of Mexico....
You will most definitely WILL be working with guys who have spent lots of time in jail.....or are wanted by the law....You WILL be working with rapists.....thieves.....drug addicts....[to include Captains...] and the harder you try to do a good job...show interest in your work and career...[a completely unknown concept to the hoards of utterly non-educated types out there] the more these criminals will shit on you......oh yes....so get ready for that.....
You will have a university level education....or two or three.....but your boss on the other had will be totally failed short order fry cook.....[who kissed the owners ass and got the job] and a royal bastard to boot...and HE will know it.....and so will you.....he'll make sure of that....

Be ready to have Captains stab you in the back.
Be ready to work with the most horridly worthless turds that lived.
Be ready to work with psychopathic Bos'ns who proudly cheat on their wives and then wear hats that say
"worlds best dad"
Be ready to work with broken gut fat-asses AB's who will take great pleasure in messing with you at setting you up to take fall after fall.....
Be ready to deal with Captains who will be SCREAMING at you AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS EVERY TIME THEY SEE YOU......saying that YOU don't have the proper inspiration to work at sea....yea.....stupid stuff like that....
Be ready to work with Captains that get high....with Chief Mates who are diarrheal perverts....pill poppers.....lairs.....drunks sluts freaks fags mutants wife beaters child abusers democrats and are just plain ol' stupid.
Be ready to work with Mass-holes and Maine-iacks....with retarded Mexicans with no brains...savage 'phlips' with knives and camouflage pants....illiterate niggers with no-cares credit cards signed with an "X"...... and melon-headed hill-billy white trash with no teeth....
Be ready to work on ships that should have been scrapped ten twenty or even thirty years before you were BORN.....Be ready to feel the endless pressure to keep theses utter pieces of shit running.....and MAKING A PROFIT.....Oh yea...be ready for a completely clueless and completely out of touch front office that only wants you to be on time....and make that never ending 'one more run'......lie to the Coast Guard...Be ready to break the law....over and over and over again...
Your captain will tell you to throw stuff over the side.....plastics....oil.....slops....you name it....and if you want to continue working .....you'll do it.....and if you want to continue working.....you'll pray that the Coasties never ever find out......
Be ready to drink on watch....the little blond Barbi doll Chief Mate and her 'candy' [booze] they'll be sitting in the office....and if you do drink you'll be breaking the law....and the companies policy....and if you don't drink...your automatically not a good guy....not one of us...and so you have now just fucked up and you'll suffer for the rest of the four, five, six, seven months your "on" and for every trip there after....sucker!.....
You WILL find super soaker squirt guns in the Mates office...in the Cargo office...full of Palmolive dish soap....for squirting on oil slicks that come off YOUR ship.....You will be told ....pressured to falsify log books....particularly the garbage and oily waste logs.....Every ship out there is as clean as a bleached white bed sheet in a convent.....right? Our ship is clean....RIGHT????
You will throw line over the side....right off the California coast.....waiting for some unsuspecting ship to come along and get hung up in it......and with any luck [as did happen for me one time] the lords of karma will send that line right into your own wheel [propeller] but the captain of course will never put THAT in any log book.....how could he?.
You will work with criminally stupid pumpmen...tankermen....deck apes using sparking tools in hazardous atmospheres.....Hey...why not? They've got absolutely NOTING worth living for...so what's the big deal?
Be ready to do totally dangerous crazy things with equipment....lift loads too heavy for the wire....hold loads over stupid kids while the officers watch you judging you...grading you....staring stupidly like the limp-tools that they are ......Don't expect ANY help from them.....because they won't....They'd rather watch you squirm....Gives em' more pleasure...

What they don't teach you in school....at the California [or any other] Maritime Academy is that 'working' in the Merchant Marine....is a misnomer....and if you DO manage to find gainful employment it is going to be a nightmare like no other you have EVER experienced.....unless of course your a stupid surfing swearing whoring tattooed drinking smoking scumbag.....and then YOUR IN! And everyone will absolutely LOVE you.....Don't expect to maintain ANY sort of personal dignity while working at sea.....you won't. Now...again...if you had NO dignity to begin with...well then...you were BORN to work at sea! GO FOR IT! If your a worthless piece of uneducated shit...you can actually KILL people with your incompetence.....while at sea....AND GET AWAY WITH IT! Serious! YOU CAN! I know of at least one guy who as done just that!

Do you have a hard time with foul language? You WILL have a hard time in the merchant marine. You will hear the work F-U-C-K...tens of thousands of times each week.....You'll hear that word one hundred times at the breakfast table....The men...and it is mostly men...[and the occasional slut woman or woman who wished she was a man]....the men sear constantly....and the women...wow....they lower themselves to this gutter level with an astonishing ease......the women you'll see in the merchant marine will swear like a afro-american PIMP who's just been ripped off.....and they'll swear like that all the time....You'd better be ready to have sex with these women when and if THEY want it.....other wise you'll be labeled a fag... If you do have sex be sure to take plenty of STD preventative measures...because you will not be the first one to screw the Barbi Doll Chief Mate.....

I'm all for it.....Keep the homosexuals from breeding....and eventually they'll die off.

The 60's and the 70's were the beginning of the 'self hate' era of American "life".
What started as a "movement" of greater consciousness quickly degenerated into a nightmarish chasm of meaningless sensory overload. I'm not trying to say that your parents are not correct...but they probably did not live through the 60's and 70's like I did. It was a crazy scary time....All the great American traditions and societal values were not only openly mocked and ridiculed...but were violently attacked. Any person or group who attempted to hold true....was attacked....Cities burned with riots that lasted many days....
It was the beginning of the decline in modern rational western thought, and life. It was the beginning of the advent of dictatorship of 'issues' of group think, hype, and lies dressed up as "openness".

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area of the 1960's and 1970's and there is no doubt that this was the worst place and time in U.S. history....
It may be difficult for some of the readers here to understand what it was like particularly those who were not in the 'city' in those days...or have never been to the area....I'll try to keep it simple here....
To call the hoards of mutant-crazies roaming around the Bay Area 'liberals' would be giving them more credit than they are due....What roams this area now is pure craziness...Even liberals have some education...

While working on a ship that was home-ported in xxxxxxxxx I had to go to Hunters Point to pick up three consignments of specialized fuels and oils for equipment onboard.
I had to take three trips to Hunters Point using a company truck.
Each time I drove down the main drag....I saw funeral processions....[this is on week days]....All one has to do is read the news....
Rash of break-ins' in the Outer Richmond.. [S.F.].[this in the last several days]
A Stabbing in Golden Gate Park.....[in the last several days...oh and remember the Zodiac Killer?...Who was never caught….lived out his life in Vallejo…Well….the Park was one of his favorite hang-outs.....cut a cab drivers throat...nice dude huh....].....
East Palo Alto...in the news again....Shooting....stabbings...high-speed car chases...[over the last several days...]
Richmond....Stabbings...shootings....drug busts....
[I knew some guys who worked on a city power line crew....they had to send non-whites into Richmond to do jobs....because it simply was not safe to send anyone else...and even these guys....had to go in force....and had keep the trucks running...fix the power and split ASAP....]

Thoughts about all the ILLEGALS working at O'Hare Airport....and in the UK Govt....???!!!!

This incident at O'Hare is not surprising....and probably is not an isolated situation either.
Most...if not all of the airports and seaports in the U.S. have this problem, a problem compounded by the fact that politically correct local and state government agencies and various 'advocacy groups' openly resist or ignore federal statues....
The federal government demands that ports [something I deal with constantly] have in place all sorts of detailed security measures...high-tech Biometric Identification etc.....but...here's the catch...many illegal immigrants work in the ports....so....do we issue documentation to those that are not citizens...not covered under U.S. law?....
For example...I am required by law to POSITIVELY IDENTIFY ALL PERSONS crossing into a port facility.....but...and it's a BIG BUT....I'm not allowed to profile....or detain....or stop someone because they are not U.S. citizens...and I have no way to check these people short of stopping them and starting an extended and fruitless search on an international level because they have no legal U.S. standing or documentation....And it just gets worse from there.....
Now...the terrorists...or those that have terror plans against the U.S. [regardless of all external factors like skin, ethnicity, religion or political bent] they know just how poorly our infrastructures and transportation systems are guarded and how porous or even non-existent our security measures are....they are fully aware of the lousy hopeless situation we are caught in. We are required to protect the U.S. its facilities....transportation assets...but we are forbidden by law...and politics ....[read threat of lawsuit]...from doing just that....It is the classic Catch-22.
This really is a case of the fox guarding the hen house....and sadly the hens are in love with the foxes that will eat them...
Many of the more experienced persons in the business have said to me over and over...that it will take MANY MORE 9-11 type attacks before the American People WAKE UP.....Sadly only THEN will there be progressive change....

As for poor 'Jose and Maria'....they need to go through the proper steps to immigrate to the U.S. like those before them....if this system needs 'fixing' then FIX it....Just because the steps are slow does NOT excuse breaking the law.....

Each of these nations....have their own official language....you live there...work there....that's it...you speak THEIR language.....

There is nothing at all ridiculous about it.....save the welfare..."welfare" [the greatest socialist euphemism of all time..] and rent controls that allow Richmond to continue to be the way it is....
Why did it come about?
Straight up.....during the war [WW2] tens of thousand of people were brought out to California to work in the shipyards. Most, both black and white came from the DEEP SOUTH....These folks worked in all the yards on the west coast...but in the Bay Area ...they worked in all the Naval Yards...Hunters Point, [Hunterspont / Bay View] Mare Island, [Vallejo] as well as all the Kaiser Shipbuilding Yards….Richmond...Oakland...South San Francisco....etc. Starting to see a pattern here?
When the war ended...so did the demand for all those ships...But all those people stayed….with the resultant increase in crime….Then the military 'left' the Bay Area....all the Navy Yard / Base jobs went as well.....but all those people from the South...they stayed....and again…more crime…..Add to this the nightmare of the 1960’s and 1970’s in California and the crime wave that started because of all that…..the so-called…self-styled ‘free speech movement in Baah-zerk-elee [1965 "everything is political"] …has essentially never ended…[Much like Detroit Watts and other cities]….Interesting to note…many of the old dorms and shipyard housing blocks were turned directly into full-on Government subsidized housing....and those same buildings are the bad areas today....
O.K. sure POINT Richmond is another 'art-fart' enclave....on a hill…. but to the North East is the City of Richmond...BAD....

When I lived on my own in California...[my home town....xxxxxxx...] I had an apartment in xxxxxxxx....and was very lucky with neighbors....Some were a bit strange ..[which is absolutely NORMAL for California...] but nothing like what you are describing.
Start looking for something else immediately....do NOT get caught in a cross-fire...and those paper thin walls....well....they definitely will not stop lead either....
Look at San Mateo....[closer to the hills...or close to down town....] Try Burlingame....or even Redwood City...[again...close to the hills...NOT in the flats...] If you can afford it look at Palo Alto and Menlo Park...but stay away from low income / controlled rent developments...[anywhere for that matter...and do your homework...find out FIRST what the people are like...if at all possible...]
Take care and get out NOW.....

The black cherry orchards along the El Camino...and the apricot peach and pear trees by the thousand right behind my old high school....Jumping over the fence to eat the perfectly ripe fresh fallen golden fruit....[all gone now...buried under housing]
The warm summer days...walking along the creeks fishing for trout....exploring all the little pools for interesting creatures.....and neat looking perfectly smooth stones....rounded by the waters.....[now all the creeks have been cemented for 'flood control']
I remember the fields that used to be along the SP tracks...wandering among the fallow grass....watching all the life spring out...rabbits and black birds...shooting tin cans with our .22‘s…..[that's all gone now too....under 'high-tech’ development']
I remember the wonderful little sailing harbor we used to have in Palo Alto at the foot of the Embarcadero....actually a historically significant old harbor....It was so much fun learning to sail.....gaining a deep appreciation for where man fits in the natural environment....what the wind would let you do in a small sailboat...and what you simply could not do....The days spent sailing alone in the huge south bay....alone in that little El Toro.....[That harbor is long gone now....shut down by the sierra club, the league of women voters and the city of Palo Alto...because somehow the scouts who used to have their boats there were deemed a 'Para-military fascist organization']
Hiking up cow hill......was another good memory....watching the sunlight filter through the bay trees….The best time to see wild life was during a rain.....the rain would keep your noise and scent down and so you stood a better chance of seeing something neat...as I almost always did.....like a family of red foxes....or the mountain lions......on time very close....less than ten yards....That vixen moving her den was perhaps the neatest thing I've ever seen...her fur all matted from the rains...the kits she carried in her mouth....passively dangling....I froze and stood motionless for almost an hour before she noticed me....and off she went....[those old trails are all closed now.....too many drunk and violent "stanford" kids littering and making a mess of it all. Too many people started to go up there so the university had to strictly regulate it all....fence it all off….but boy they got some WAY cool 'art' up there now...on the hillside...and the paved jogging paths are too cute!!!]

Well to be quite honest don't even consider moving out to California while maintaining your interest in keeping and maintaining you second amendment rights. The state of California is continually and actively working to eliminate all traces of private personal firearms ownership. If they can't do so with a total outright ban....they do so with incremental 'right loss'.....meaning...."oh sure...you can have a " GUN".....but you must take years of classes.....register all firearms with every city and state agency....register your person with all local law enforcement....full photographic records of you and everything you own....finger prints.....retina scans....and GPS full time tracking of you and your firearms....at all times.......you must pay huge fees.....use only state certified ammo......guns....safety equipment...personal observers....rules enforcers...transportation and storage arrangements....like...all GUNS.. must be kept cast in solid concrete at all times to 'protect our kids'....and what dang fool politician gona vote against any law....'protecting those kids'.........you got it......

Third: There is NO SUCH THING as 'nice' and 'cheap' in california.

Wandering about the 'city' the other day.....looking at all the different things that there are to see in San Francisco. Decided to hit up some of the local book stores.

I've been to most of the famous used book stores in the city. Green Apple Books....City Lights....etc.

They all seem to have the same politics....and they can't wait to thrust it in your face....like some dirty genitals as seen at the hideous Folsom Street Fair[ry].......
